Why Magnesium?

Did you know Magnesium is a key nutrient in over 300 chemical reactions in your body! Being deficient in Magnesium may cause the following conditions:

  • Headaches and/or migraines

  • Muscle cramps/twitches

  • Constipation

  • Insomnia

  • Anxiety

  • Asthma

  • Chronic fatigue

  • High blood pressure

  • Acid reflux

  • Low bone density

Magnesium deficiency is a HUGE problem in our society today. Not only are we not getting the Magnesium our body needs in order to thrive we are also depleting it daily by consuming things like alcohol, caffeine, sugar, highly processed foods, and other toxins we encounter on a daily basis without even realizing it. It doesn’t help matters either that it is hard for the body to absorb magnesium without sufficient vitamin B6, vitamin D, and selenium.

Often times by simply replenishing the body with Magnesium and other essential nutrients like vitamin B6 and vitamin D numerous symptoms and chronic conditions can be resolved. To increase your intake of Magnesium try incorporating some of the following foods into your diet:

  • Nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, walnuts)

  • Spinach

  • Kelp

  • Lima beans

  • Kidney beans

  • Millet

  • Avacado

  • Shrimp

Supplements can also be extremely beneficial when trying to increase Magnesium levels. Some important notes:

  • Be cautious as to what brand of Magnesium supplement you buy. Not all supplements are created equal! Some of my favorite Magnesium supplements are:

    • Bioptimizers Magnesium Breakthough

    • Pure Encapsulations (various formulations)

  • There are many different forms of magnesium. For example, magnesium citrate is the best if you are struggling with constipation, whereas, magnesium taurate is best if you are suffering from headaches or migraines. Keep in mind though any magnesium supplementation will help with all conditions.

    • Exception: steer clear from magnesium carbonate, oxide, gluconate, and sulfate as these forms are poorly absorbed and do not provide much benefit!

  • Hot epsom salt baths are another good way to absorb magnesium.

  • ***People with kidney disease or heart disease should consult their doctor and take only under the supervision of healthcare provider***
